Blessings of Being Discipled

In the testimonies below, you can see how discipleship is led by the Lord, who guides the cycle of the growth of the Christian like a mature fruit makes another fruit. When you hold true to this cycle, the individual Christian will experience God's grace even more, and be used as an excellent witness to increasingly glorify God.

Blessings of Being Discipled

By Noriko Yarikouchi (in the middle)

I became a believer of Jesus Christ at a Japanese Christian Fellowship in June, 2008. God was merciful to me, and He gave me the gift of salvation. God also granted me a church and gave me an opportunity to get baptized on Christmas in that year.

Today, I would like to share how God not only blessed me with a church, but also gave me brothers and sisters in Christ who are willing to be involved in my spiritual growth. It has especially been a blessing that a staff from Second Level has been providing regular follow-ups and support.

Today, I would like to share how God not only blessed me with a church, but also gave me brothers and sisters in Christ who are willing to be involved in my spiritual growth. It has especially been a blessing that a staff from Second Level has been providing regular follow-ups and support.

Soon thereafter, there was a two-month period where I was unable to meet with her. At the time, I didn’t think it would affect my faith at all, but when I look back, my relationship with God had slowly begun to be shaken.

Through this experience, I have realized that although faith is a relationship between God and ones self, the relationship of brothers and sisters are critical.

Through these relations, we are corrected, tested, and strengthened.

Originally, I believed that all I needed to do is to work with God to have a relationship, since faith is something between God and me. However, I found myself having a difficult time maintaining a quality relationship with God. I actually found myself able to come before the Lord when I would share things about my relationship with God to others. And God would fix things. Now I believe that it is God’s will for us to have coheirs in Christ so that we may encourage each other’s faith.

Not only that, I was encouraged many times when a friend at church would listen to my questions and helped me understand things that were unclear to me. People from my church have supported me with their prayers and Christian Fellowship meetings always have strengthen my spirit. I am very thankful that I have so many fellow believers who encourage and support me as I grow spiritually.

I recently realized that God has now put me in the position to support those, who like me, were in search for the truth. Just like the brothers and sisters who have supported me through my journey, now it is my turn to do what I can for others who may be in a similar place that I was. At first, I though, ”What could someone like me do to encourage others? It’s only been a year or so that I’ve come to Christ.”, but the truth remained. God had put me next to that person in need. “Who is going to help this person if I refuse? “ “Haven’t I been hoping for someone else to help others so that I could stay out of it?”. These were the thoughts in my mind. I understood that this is what God had meant when He gave us His greatest commandment. And there is so much blessing in it.

I would like to end this testimony with a scripture.

Book of John 13:34-35
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
